For almost 40 years Toomey's Rent-All Center has been providing Worcester County with Tents and Canopies of all sizes. From backyard parties to fund-raisers and college graduation ceremonies we've got tents to fit every event. Toomey's currently rents three different styles of tent: DIY, Frame and Rope and Pole.
Before deciding which type of tent you want it helps to quickly survey the area you plan to use. We believe that informed customers are more likely to rent what best suits their needs, on this page we provide some basic tips that you can use to get ready.
Preparing to Rent a Tent
To start we recommend taking a few minutes to write down any details and expectations you have for your event. How many people are you expecting, how big of an area is available, is it a backyard or somewhere else, etc. You should also consider making a list of the items you want to rent and separating them into "want" and "need" categories.
If you "need" something it takes priority over things you just "want."
We also recommend using a digital or Polaroid camera to snap a few pictures of the area you plan to use - this will help Toomey's identify any immediate issues that your space may have.
Here are a few other things you should look out for:
- Is the area available larger than the tent needed?
- Are there any obstructions in the area that will be covered by the tent? (pools, playsets, trees or shrubs?)
- Are there any obstructions over the area? (hanging wires, large tree branches)
- Is the area relatively flat?

Generally speaking tents cannot be setup over pools trees or shrubs. There have been exceptions (like the tent on a deck shown above) so don't get discouraged. Depending on the size of your tent, the size of the obstruction, the size of the available area and the number of people you expect we may be able to help you work something out.
Tent Rental Safety Concerns
Visible power, phone and cable lines are something that can be spotted and planned for by anyone. Underground utilities like water and gas lines aren't so easy to find. Massachusetts' state law requires anyone doing any excavating or staking to first contact Dig Safe (888-344-7233).
Dig Safe is a free service that comes to your home or business and marks any underground obstructions that prevent unauthorized digging. Because most of our tents require staking it is extremely important to call Dig Safe before a tent can be installed. Dig Safe offers a free service and doesn't require you to be present during their inspection.
You should also check to determine whether you need a building permit before reserving a tent. Feel free to contact us for advice. We've setup tents all over Worcester County and may be able to help in determining what you need.
Time Constraints and other Concerns
If you're tent absolutely must be setup or taken down at a specific time please let us know when placing your reservation. In order to avoid inclement weather we occasionally setup tents and canopies 2- 3 days in advance. Customers are never charged extra when Toomey's decides to setup a tent early.
Except when other arrangements have been made, all tents and canopies are setup during our business hours Monday- Friday.
Purchasing Used Tents
Occasionally when entering or leaving our tent season we do sell used Tents and Canopies (we can also special order tents if you'd like to buy something new.) For price quotes on purchasing new and used Tents and Canopies please contact us.
