For installing fence posts, decks and even wheel chair ramps Toomey's Rent-All Center carries four different types of Post Hole digger, each pictured below.

Depending on the job you're doing each of the post hole diggers shown below has different strengths and weaknesses. If you're concerned about issues with rock or slate give us a call to see what options might be best. Generally a post-hole digger is ideal for small stones (no bigger than your fist) larger rocks and stones may require separate excavation.

Before using a post hold digger be sure to contact Dig Safe (1-888-DIG-SAFE) to ensure that no underground utilities exist. It also helps to plan digging for mid spring through late summer.

We also always remind customers to make sure they have the proper permitting and are aware of what their structure requires. These post-hole diggers can dig deep enough for fence, porch and deck installations but each has different permitting requirements depending on where they're being installed.

One Man Hydraulic Post Hole Digger

One Man Hydraulic Post Hole Digger

This one man Hydraulic Post Hole Digger is ideal for jobs on un-level terrain or jobs where you're doing multiple holes. It does require a pickup truck to transport but we have managed to fit it into cargo vans as well. This machine has a pivoting head which allows for more precise digging on hills or slanted lawns but remember that using any tool on an incline requires extra safety precautions.

Two Man Post Hole Digger

Two Man Post Hole Digger

Two Man Post Hole Diggers are the most familiar looking type of auger. These machines require two people to operate and are best for small jobs but have been used for installing long fences and decks. If you have a small vehicle be sure to call ahead to make sure you can transport this machine.

Similar to the two man post hole digger this one man model is ideal for smaller jobs. Be sure to call ahead with your vehicle type to see if the machine will fit. It will definitely fit into pickup trucks and empty minivans but it won't fit into many sedans and most two door vehicles.

The largest Post Hole Digger carried by Toomey's Rent-All Center is actually an attachment for our Ditch Witch Mini-Ski Steer / Mini-Loader. This is a tow behind unit and requires a vehicle with a 2" ball hitch capable of towing at least 3500lbs. Along with the auger the Ditch Witch rental also includes a bucket for transporting the soil that's displaced while digging.
